Curly beautiful locks don’t aren’t something you should be stressing about. Here are 7 important tips on how to care for naturally curly or wavy hair.

1. Find a good stylist. (Ask if they know anything about “twist-cutting”, which is a great cutting technique for curly hair.) Ask your friends, strangers, someone whose hair you admire—it’s best to get recommendations from people who have the same hair type as yours.

.

2. We have mentioned this before, but remember you don’t need to shampoo on a daily basis. Choose a shampoo and conditioner that leaves your hair feeling good to you. You don’t want just washed hair that still feels like you have product in it or leaves it feeling dry even if it isn’t.

3. Avoid the use of brushes. Unless you are blow-drying your hair straight, use your fingers to comb your hair.

4. Less is more. Don’t use too much products in your hair. It will weigh down your hair and make it greasy by day’s end.

5. Use products in your hair when your hair is wet—preferably out of the shower. This will ‘trap’ the moisture and get you thick, moisture-rich curls.

6. Let your hair air dry or blow dry on a cool setting. Sometimes blow drying can completely dry out your hair and cause frizz. Another tip we recommend is to try to air dry on the weekends or at night.

7. Detoxify your hair about once a month. Your hair is one of the most absorbing and dirtiest parts of your body. Think of the smog, pollution, germs from sneezes and coughs, smoke, etc. that you encounter on a daily basis. All of this can get trapped in your hair. If you smoke or someone around you does, your hair will trap and smell like smoke. So even if you choose to live with the frizz and not use anything in your hair, please use a detoxifier once in a while. It will help your hair out tremendously!
