Hollywood Hair

For decades stylish women have looked to Hollywood and celebrities for inspiration. Ask any hairstylist where their clients come up with the majority of styling ideas and you’ll likely hear stories about glossy magazine cutouts and request such as: “Can you style it like that girl with the hair on Friends?”

We’ve put together a few of the most popular trends in celebrity hairstyles that Hollywood has ever produced.

Twiggy (1960's)

For a time in the 1960’s it was all about Twiggy and her boyish haircut. It was so popular at one point, Newsweek magazine put the famous model (and her coif) on the cover. The celebrity hairstyle was the creation of none other than Vidal Sassoon.

Farrah (1970's)

Farrah Fawcett, everyone’s favorite Hollywood angel,  launched a big winged hairstyle that was even bigger than disco in the 1970’s. In fact, not only did adolescent males everywhere swoon over the ‘do, but many incorporated a mini-wing hairstyle for their own mane; making The Farrah a true crossover fashion.

Marisa Tomei’s Rocker (1980’s)

In the 1980’s high hair reached new heights and there was no such thing as too much hairspray. At the time, an ascendant Marisa Tomei burst onto the Hollywood scene in “My Cousin Vinny”. Although she certainly can’t be credited with the style, she was responsible for keeping the ball rolling.

The Rachel (1990’s)

“Give me the Rachel” became such a popular refrain in the mid-1990s that most hairstylists still cringe at the phrase today. The cut that Jennifer Aniston made popular on the television show “Friends” is believed to be the most popular hairstyle in contemporary American history.
