3 Perfect Lipstick Shades For This Summer

Red lipstick is an iconic fashion choice. From Marilyn Monroe to Madonna, women have been glamming up their look for decades with this striking lip color. However, it can be a bit intimidating to try to pull it off yourself.

Luckily, we have some pointers to help you choose the best shade for you. So don’t be shy – paint your lips red and turn heads!

Cherry – Deep reds can work on almost skin tone. On blondes with pale skin they are particularly striking as the red contrasts sharply with the palor of the skin. However on olive and darker complexions, deep reds convey mystery and sensuality. Famous redheads Christina Hendricks, Nicole Kidman, and Lily Cole have proven that even redheads can pull off this look.

Pink Undertones – Red lipsticks with pink undertones can be tough to pull off on olive complexions as they can clash with yellow/green undertones in the skin. Pink-red lip colors work best on peach complexions (think Reese Witherspoon) as they complement rosy tones.

Orange Blossom – This shade is by far the most difficult to wear. Though it has been known to work, for say, the absolutely radiant January Jones. Your best bet when attempting this shade is to go the peachy route rather than the bold orange route. Peach tones are subtle yet interesting and will give your look an extra pop of color without overwhelming your features. Also beware however, that this particular shade works best in spring and summer and tends to look sort of out of place during colder seasons.
